Overview

This skill helps you turn your starred GitHub repositories into a searchable knowledge base that AI agents can query. Instead of letting your stars sit idle, this system organizes them, extracts relevant metadata, and exposes them through an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server so agents can find and use them during conversations.

Getting Started

1. Clone this repository
2. Configure your GitHub token in a .env file (see .env.example)
3. Run the sync script to fetch your stars:

   npm run sync
   

4. Start the MCP server to make the knowledge base available to agents:

   npm run mcp-server
   

5. Deploy to GitHub Pages (optional) for a web-based view

How It Works

1. The sync script uses the GitHub API to fetch all repositories you've starred
2. Each star's metadata (name, description, topics, language, URL) is extracted and stored
3. An MCP server is started, exposing a searchStars tool that agents can call
4. Agents can query by keywords, topics, or language filters
5. The knowledge base can also be deployed as a static site on GitHub Pages for manual browsing

Configuration

Variable	Description
GITHUB_TOKEN	Personal access token with repo scope
GITHUB_USERNAME	Your GitHub username
MCP_PORT	Port for MCP server (default: 3000)

Claude Code

Add this skill to your Claude Code project configuration:

API Reference

searchStars(query)

Search through your starred repositories.

Parameters:

• query (string): Search term
• language (string, optional): Filter by programming language
• topic (string, optional): Filter by topic

Returns: Array of matching repositories with name, description, URL, language, and topics.
