What does star-knowledge-base do?
Transform your GitHub Stars from a bookmark collection into an agent-searchable personal code toolbox | MCP + Agent Skill + GitHub Pages
Overview
This skill helps you turn your starred GitHub repositories into a searchable knowledge base that AI agents can query. Instead of letting your stars sit idle, this system organizes them, extracts relevant metadata, and exposes them through an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server so agents can find and use them during conversations.
Features
- Automated star sync: Pulls your starred repositories and their metadata
- Structured storage: Organizes stars into a queryable document store
- MCP server support: Exposes the knowledge base via MCP protocol for agent access
- GitHub Pages hosting: Deploy the knowledge base as a static site for easy sharing
- Agent-ready: Works with Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, and other MCP-compatible agents
Getting Started
- Clone this repository
- Configure your GitHub token in a
.envfile (see.env.example) - Run the sync script to fetch your stars:
npm run sync - Start the MCP server to make the knowledge base available to agents:
npm run mcp-server - Deploy to GitHub Pages (optional) for a web-based view
How It Works
- The sync script uses the GitHub API to fetch all repositories you've starred
- Each star's metadata (name, description, topics, language, URL) is extracted and stored
- An MCP server is started, exposing a
searchStarstool that agents can call - Agents can query by keywords, topics, or language filters
- The knowledge base can also be deployed as a static site on GitHub Pages for manual browsing
Configuration
| Variable | Description |
|---|---|
GITHUB_TOKEN | Personal access token with repo scope |
GITHUB_USERNAME | Your GitHub username |
MCP_PORT | Port for MCP server (default: 3000) |
