xazaj/sdlc-playbook

Decision playbooks for coding agents — a full SDLC decision manual for coding agents. For each SDLC phase, it provides a selection matrix: what to install, which design system to use, whether to follow SDD or TDD.

What is sdlc-playbook?

The xazaj/sdlc-playbook skill provides coding agents with structured decision-making playbooks across the entire Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC). It helps agents choose the right tools, design systems, and development methodologies (such as SDD or TDD) for each phase. The skill primarily focuses on the design phase, where it reads a decision matrix from `~/.sdlc/stages/20-design/DECIDE.md` to recommend a single, actionable design approach tailored to the user's specific interface. It also includes utilities like a silent update checker and guidance for agent-generated code to avoid template-like outputs. The skill is designed to be used by coding agents (e.g., for platforms like Cursor or Claude Code) and emphasizes clear, contextual recommendations rather than overwhelming users with options.

Design Approach Selection

Read the decision matrix to provide one recommendation for the interface the user is working on.

Decision matrix: ~/.sdlc/stages/20-design/DECIDE.md (~ is the current user's home directory)

Usage

  1. First run ~/.sdlc/bin/check-update.sh. It is normally silent and only outputs a line when the knowledge base is behind the remote version — if there is output, inform the user, then continue. It is throttled and will not make a network request every time.
  2. If the following points are unknown, ask one at a time: How long will this interface last? Roughly how many screens? Does it need brand recognition?
  3. Read the DECIDE.md above, and locate yourself based on the "Judgment Criteria" and "Recommended Path" sections.
  4. Give a clear recommendation with reasoning — do not list all options and let the user choose.
  5. If this interface will be generated by an agent, you must read the "Differences When Executed by an Agent" section — it explains how to avoid a template-like feel.

This skill is only responsible for selecting the approach. After the selection, specific visual implementation should be handed over to implementation skills such as frontend-design.

Do not recite the entire DECIDE.md.
