Overview

This skill processes reference video footage to create B-roll material. It performs three main steps:

1. Marking key points: Analyzes the video to identify significant moments (cuts, motion changes, or manually specified timestamps).
2. Frame extraction: Extracts representative frames from those points for thumbnail/preview use.
3. Scene decomposition: Splits the video into smaller clips based on identified markers.

Finally, it generates a Remotion project that composites these clips into an editable B-roll sequence, with controls for duration, transitions, and overlays.

Use Cases

• Automatically generating B-roll for YouTube or social media videos.
• Creating visual assets for presentations from demo recordings.
• Producing training materials with supporting clips from screen captures.

Requirements

• Codex environment (AI-assisted coding tool).
• Node.js 18+ installed locally.
• Remotion CLI (npx remotion) available.
• FFmpeg for video/audio processing.

How It Works

1. Input: Provide a reference video file or a URL.
2. Processing: The skill runs a script that:
   • Detects scene changes using FFmpeg.
   • Creates a list of timestamps.
   • Extracts frames at those timestamps.
   • Splits video into segments.
3. Output: Generates a Remotion src/ directory with composition files, ready to render.

Example Usage

# Run the skill on a video file
codex run ljq-broll-video-generator --input ./demo.mp4 --output ./broll_project

This will create a Remotion project in ./broll_project with:

• src/Composition.tsx
• src/scenes/ (individual clip components)
• package.json with Remotion dependencies
• remotion.config.ts

Supported Platforms

• Codex (primary)
• Should also work with other AI coding agents (Claude Code, Cursor, etc.) with minor adjustments.

Customization

You can tweak the generated Remotion project by editing the composition components:

• Change transition effects.
• Adjust clip durations.
• Add text overlays or logos.
