Codex Same-Window Startup Animation
Deploys the accompanying animation to the user's computer, plays it in the official Codex main window, and retains a static wallpaper after completion. By default, it shows a singing silhouette avatar, "Welcome back", a white dragon character background, and "Start your next creation". The avatar is 4096×4096 and the wallpaper is 3840×2160; they are AI-enhanced exported images with some details reconstructed.
Installation and Daily Use
<skill> in commands refers to the directory containing this SKILL.md. Run through a PowerShell environment that allows script execution (PowerShell 7 verified locally):
& '<skill>/scripts/manage.ps1' -Action Install
& '<skill>/scripts/manage.ps1' -Action Status
& '<skill>/scripts/manage.ps1' -Action Start
Install copies the accompanying program to %LOCALAPPDATA%\CodexStartupSameWindow\App and creates a desktop shortcut "Codex Startup Animation" using the GPT icon. Reinstalling updates the already marked program directory and does not clear personal images or text. Creating the skill or installation files does not require closing or restarting Codex.
If Windows PowerShell 5 system policy blocks the ps1, use an existing, allowed PowerShell 7; do not modify execution policy for this purpose. When no script host is available, deliver the accompanying program and instructions, clearly indicating that installation is incomplete.
Start calls the bundled CodexSameWindow.exe. If the official app is running normally and injection is not active, prompt the user to save their work and fully exit before using the shortcut to launch. Do not terminate the user's application process.
Also supports -Action Settings to open appearance settings, -Action Restore to revert the current appearance, and -Action Shortcut to repair the shortcut. After injection, press Ctrl+Alt+B to open settings. Restoring appearance only does not clear personal settings.
Modifying Avatar, Images, and Text
Field differentiation based on screenshot position:
| User-pointed location | Field |
|---|---|
| Large text directly below the opening avatar | introTitle |
| Small text below the large text | introCaption |
| Subtitle at the bottom of the character scene in the second half | artworkSubtitle |
| Chat wallpaper visibility intensity, 0–75 | wallpaperStrength |
| Opening avatar file | avatarFile |
| Animation character image, automatically generates line art | artworkFile |
| Chat wallpaper original size file | wallpaperFile |
Only set the fields the user requests. Write the modifications as a UTF-8 JSON file, then execute:
{"introTitle":"Welcome back","artworkSubtitle":"Start your next creation"}
& '<skill>/scripts/manage.ps1' -Action Set -PatchFile '<absolute path>/patch.json'
The assistant needs Node.js to execute Set and detailed Status; if Node is not in PATH, use the environment's dependency location tool to find it and pass via -NodePath. Start, Install, graphical settings, and restore functions do not depend on Node. Set -DryRun only validates input, does not connect to the application.
The script merges personal settings, immediately updates the static background, and closes any temporary settings layer it opened. The next playback shows the new images and subtitles; use -Replay to preview. If the main window is in the background, preview is skipped; do not report skipping as played. If the settings layer is already opened by the user, first ask the user to save or close it to avoid overwriting unsaved operations.
avatarFile uses original resolution, square images work best; artworkFile uses the existing importer to generate a 1536×1024 animation image and matching line art; wallpaperFile preserves original resolution. When replacing the full background, provide both artworkFile and wallpaperFile together so the animation line art and chat wallpaper come from the same image. If the user requests AI sharpness enhancement, use available image enhancement capabilities before importing, and truthfully describe reconstruction details and final dimensions.
Injection Boundaries
Only supports the verified OpenAI-signed Windows Store package OpenAI.Codex. The launcher enables a local 127.0.0.1 random debug port through the system activation interface, verifying the listening address, process ownership, and main page. The port is retained with the app process; after a full exit, opening from the original official icon can terminate the injection.
The settings assistant only operates on its own appearance layer __aemeathExtension and the aemeath-startup-images database. Do not expand scope to other windows, read chat content, or modify the official installation package, CSP, global transparency, security settings, or login state. If connection fails, first check status and logs, avoid unconditional re-injection or interrupting user work.
For modifications to default templates, repackaging, timing adjustments, or debugging background windows, read references/maintenance.md.
