Academic PPT Template

Build editable academic decks from research evidence while preserving the bundled visual system and validation gates.

Required Workflow

  1. Read references/style-spec.md before creating slides.
  2. Read references/slide-patterns.md when selecting layouts or planning a deck.
  3. Inspect assets/academic-template.pptx for the rendered reference and scripts/create-example.js for the starter implementation.
  4. Create a content-specific generator outside the skill directory. Import components from assets/template-kit/; do not overwrite the reference asset.
  5. Use only source-supported claims and numbers. Label illustrative data explicitly and remove it from final research decks.
  6. Generate a .raw.pptx with native PowerPoint text, shapes, charts and line arrows.
  7. Run the cross-platform validator:
python scripts/validate-pptx.py output.raw.pptx --expected-slides N --expected-charts C --min-arrows A
  1. Before publishing a reusable or public template, run the privacy audit. Add project-specific sensitive terms with repeated --deny arguments:
python scripts/audit-privacy.py PATH --deny "sensitive term"

The privacy audit rejects images, PDFs, fonts and legacy Office binaries by default because text scanning cannot prove they are anonymous. Use --allow-binary-assets only after manually inspecting every such asset.

  1. On Windows with Microsoft PowerPoint installed, close all PowerPoint windows and certify the final file:
powershell -NoProfile -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -File scripts/finalize-with-powerpoint.ps1 `
  -InputPath output.raw.pptx `
  -OutputPath output.pptx
  1. Render and inspect every slide. Check overflow, overlaps, incorrect arrows, low contrast and missing chart labels.

Certification Status

  • Report Cross-platform validation passed after validate-pptx.py succeeds.
  • Report PowerPoint certified only when the finalizer outputs POWERPOINT_OPEN_VALIDATION=PASSED.
  • On non-Windows systems or systems without PowerPoint, keep the raw file and explicitly state that native PowerPoint certification was not run.

Content Rules

  • Use action titles that state the takeaway.
  • Keep one analytical job per slide.
  • Use black for explanatory body text.
  • Keep charts, data labels, axes and legends in Microsoft YaHei.
  • Use the purple family consistently for peer boxes and series.
  • Connect arrows to node edges and preserve the intended direction.
  • Do not add speaker notes, visible production instructions, personal metadata or institution logos unless the user explicitly requests them.
  • Do not fabricate research values, citations, affiliations or conclusions.

Bundled Resources

  • assets/template-kit/ppt-template.js: theme, typography, cards, headers and chart options.
  • assets/template-kit/academic-research-flow.js: fixed four-node academic flow slide.
  • assets/template-kit/flow-charts.js: anchored native arrows and flow nodes.
  • assets/academic-template.pptx: privacy-safe six-slide reference deck.
  • scripts/create-example.js: portable starter generator.
  • scripts/validate-pptx.py: ZIP/XML, per-run font, note, visible-chart and arrow checks.
  • scripts/audit-privacy.py: source and archive privacy scan.
  • scripts/finalize-with-powerpoint.ps1: Windows PowerPoint repair, metadata sanitization and second-open certification.
