Brands as YouTube creators

Based on Simon Kaiser's public method. Not affiliated with or endorsed by Simon Kaiser.

When to use

Use this skill when a brand needs a YouTube channel proposition, a repeatable show, a long-form pilot, or a review of a channel that publishes videos without building a returning audience. It produces a strategy and production brief that connects audience interests, creator behavior, commercial relevance, and measurement. It also helps explain when Shorts complement a longer series and when a channel investment is premature.

Treat the brand as a participant in an existing viewing culture. A successful channel gives people a reason to choose its videos and return for another episode. Long-form is a means to deepen that relationship, not a requirement to stretch every topic. Preserve the user's objective, budget, audience, and brand constraints; mark missing information as an assumption rather than inventing research.

Read the evidence boundaries in references/method.md before attributing advice. The MEEDIA article's exact five reasons are unavailable in the public introduction. This package supplies a clearly identified five-part synthesis from other fetched public material. Keep that distinction in any client-facing explanation. Practical pilot gates, diagnostic rules, and template fields are this package's operational adaptation, not a proprietary Kaiser framework.

Procedure

  1. Frame the assignment. Use the brief fields in templates/output-template.md. Record the business outcome, intended audience, existing channel, production capacity, and requested deliverable. Identify unknowns and the evidence needed to resolve them. Start with a recommendation that can be assessed against these constraints.

  2. Check channel readiness. Apply the readiness rules in references/method.md. Determine whether the organization can support recurring production, a recognizable host or cast, audience responses, and analytics review. If resources only support a single campaign, recommend a bounded experiment and state its limits.

  3. Investigate the audience's viewing world. Follow references/method.md. Identify relevant creators, recurring topics, audience language, interests, and unmet promises. Use supplied research or accessible public material. Separate observations from hypotheses, and explain how the brand can contribute credibly.

  4. Choose the role of long-form. Use references/method.md. Select the applicable mechanisms: depth, meaningful time, relationship, serial continuation, or efficient attention. Explain what additional runtime earns for this audience. Retain Shorts for a defined supporting purpose rather than assuming long-form wins every objective.

  5. Write the channel promise. Complete the audience and proposition fields in templates/output-template.md. Describe whom the channel serves, what viewers receive, why this brand belongs, and why they would return. Choose one coherent audience promise before adding unrelated content categories.

  6. Design a repeatable format. Use references/method.md and the contrasts in examples/worked-examples.md. Specify host continuity, episode engine, viewer stakes, recurring structure, and natural product relevance. Choose fiction, challenges, tutorials, or reporting according to audience demand and feasible production.

  7. Make an episode accessible and compelling. Apply references/method.md. Draft a title, thumbnail concept, opening, episode beats, payoff, and next-view invitation. A newcomer must understand the immediate situation without watching the archive. Remove introductions that delay the promised value.

  8. Build the community loop. Follow references/method.md. Plan relevant collaborations, responses to comments, and a way for audience questions to influence future episodes. Assign an owner and realistic response capacity. Preserve the show's identity while incorporating useful feedback.

  9. Connect organic, paid, and Shorts. Use references/method.md. Explain each component's job and its audience match. Specify what organic evidence would justify amplification, where new viewers should go next, and how paid performance will be reported separately. Do not promise that short-video reach automatically creates long-form fans.

  10. Define the pilot and learning cycle. Complete measurement and production fields in templates/output-template.md, using references/method.md. Set a feasible batch, review date, agreed targets, and change or stop conditions. Diagnose packaging, retention, and return behavior separately before committing additional budget.

  11. Review and deliver. Run checklists/review-checklist.md. Resolve failed checks, qualify case statistics, and link source-backed claims through references/sources.md. Deliver the filled strategy, example episode, pilot decisions, and remaining assumptions in the user's requested format.

Individual skills in this repo

This repo contains 18 individual skills — each has its own dedicated page.

getedgehq/agent-evals

Build evals for an AI agent that already does real work. Use when someone asks "how do I know my agent is right", wants to test an agent before trusting it, compare models on cost versus quality, or turn production failures into tests. Walks from first tasks and yes/no verifiers, to isolated environments, to a trace-driven improvement loop.

getedgehq/cli-ux-review

Audit a command-line tool for user-friendliness — clear situation / next-step / options in every output, colour-highlighted runnable commands, no raw jargon, no silent hangs. Invoke for "CLI UX audit", "review my CLI", "is this CLI intuitive", or before any CLI release.

getedgehq/generate-image

Generate images with OpenAI GPT Image 2 via the Codex CLI, billed through the user's ChatGPT Plus subscription (no OpenAI API key, no per-image API cost). Use when the user asks to create, generate, or make an image, picture, illustration, icon, hero graphic, or concept art from a text prompt.

getedgehq/harness-first

Diagnose and fix an unreliable, expensive, or unsafe LLM agent by auditing its harness (golden set, judge, cost caps, data layer, action approvals, tracing) before blaming or swapping the model. Use when someone says an agent is "burning tokens", "hallucinating", "brittle", gives inconsistent answers, asks whether to switch to a cheaper/better model, or wants to ship an agent or prompt change to customers.

getedgehq/http-error-triage

Run before concluding anything from an HTTP error on a third-party API. Separates a real credential/entitlement problem from a CDN or WAF block, a wrong endpoint, or a client-signature ban. Use whenever an API returns 401/403/402/429 and you are about to say "the key is dead", "credits are exhausted", "the plan lacks access", or "we are rate limited".

getedgehq/linkedin-media-prep

Convert, crop, resize, and compress images and videos for optimal LinkedIn upload quality and file size. Use when the user wants to prepare a photo, image, or video for LinkedIn (profile picture, cover photo, post image, article featured image, post video, or video ad), optimize file size for LinkedIn, crop and resize for LinkedIn dimensions, convert HEIC/RAW/PNG/MOV to LinkedIn-ready JPEG or MP4, or mentions LinkedIn media requirements, specs, or limits.

getedgehq/people-search

Find and rank professional people for recruiting, partnerships, sales, or research from user-provided data, public web sources, an authenticated search session, or a connected provider. Use for people discovery, LinkedIn or Sales Navigator search design, profile-list ranking, or provider filter translation.

getedgehq/rocketlist

Turn a CV into a shortlist of live startup roles from Rocketlist's public job board, including adjacent job titles the person would never have searched for, each with its published salary, the evidence for the fit, and a direct apply link. Use for "find roles I would be a strong fit for", career pivots, remote or VC-backed job hunts, and salary-visible role discovery.

getedgehq/security-audit-checklist

Run a comprehensive security audit across application code, cloud infrastructure, containers, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code. Covers privacy compliance, OWASP basics, secret leakage, API security, IAM misconfigurations, storage exposure, Kubernetes hardening, and network security. Use when the user asks to audit, review, or harden app or cloud security, check for secrets, scan for XSS/SQLi, verify security headers, review Terraform/CloudFormation, audit AWS/GCP/Azure configs, or perform any security-focused review.
