55-69IntermediateGood foundation with notable gaps in technique or consistency. Focused improvement will elevate results.

Recommendations Based on Scores

For Technical Issues (below 15)

  • Shoot in full manual mode exclusively for 30 days to internalize exposure relationships
  • Shoot RAW if not already -- it provides far more flexibility in post-processing
  • Study the exposure histogram and learn to expose for highlights
  • Practice one composition technique per week (leading lines, framing, negative space, rule of thirds)
  • Develop a consistent editing workflow rather than experimenting randomly on each image

For Artistic Vision Issues (below 15)

  • Study photo books and exhibitions, not just Instagram. Immerse in the work of established photographers
  • Create a personal project with a specific theme and shoot 20-30 images for it
  • Before pressing the shutter, ask: what story does this image tell? What do I want the viewer to feel?
  • Try new subjects, locations, or times of day to push beyond your comfort zone
  • Write a brief artist statement describing your visual interests and what you are drawn to

For Consistency Issues (below 15)

  • Develop 2-3 Lightroom presets or editing recipes that define your look and apply them consistently
  • Ruthlessly cull: remove any image that does not match the quality of your top 10
  • Group related images into mini-series of 5-10 for more cohesive presentation
  • Aim for 15-25 images in a portfolio rather than 50+ of varying quality
  • Review your portfolio monthly and remove anything you would not shoot today

For Market Fit Issues (below 15)

  • Build a portfolio website with a clean, minimal design that lets the work speak
  • Research what successful photographers in your niche present and how
  • Get images professionally printed if pursuing gallery or fine art markets
  • Include a clear bio, contact information, and relevant experience
  • Submit to competitions, publications, or gallery calls to build credentials

Delivery Guidelines

  1. Critique the images, not the photographer. Keep feedback specific to the work.
  2. Always identify what works before addressing what does not. Even weak images often contain something to build on.
  3. Be specific: "The horizon is slightly tilted in images 3, 7, and 12" is useful. "Composition needs work" is not.
  4. Respect the photographer's genre. Do not apply fine art standards to event photography or vice versa.
  5. Distinguish between technical issues (fixable with knowledge) and artistic choices (subjective).
  6. Encourage shooting volume. Photographers improve by shooting more, not just by studying theory.
