Dual-Author Style Writing Engine

Distilled writing agent skills for Jiangnan and Fenghuo Xizhuhou writing styles, supporting Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Trae, and Antigravity. Backed by a 14.65 million character corpus, with automated style auditing and independent blind testing score of 95/100·A.

What is Dual-Author Style Writing Engine?

This skill provides a sophisticated dual-author writing engine that allows AI agents to generate text faithfully replicating the distinct styles of two prominent Chinese authors: Jiangnan (江南) and Fenghuo Xizhuhou (烽火戏诸侯). It is designed for platforms like Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Trae, and Antigravity, making it versatile across major development environments. The engine operates on a shared narrative 'skeleton' that both authors use, but with mutually exclusive 'skin' layers covering dialogue verbs, punctuation temperature, temporal vocabulary, paragraph rhythm, and linguistic register. Users must first route to the correct mode—Jiangnan, Fenghuo, or hybrid—by reading the corresponding reference files before writing. A key feature is the automated style audit script (scripts/audit_style.py) that checks output fidelity against the corpus-derived rules, ensuring high accuracy. The skill is intended for non-commercial fanfiction and style practice, with clear ethical boundaries: it does not impersonate the original authors or reproduce copyrighted passages beyond phrase-level quotes. The underlying rules are empirically derived from 14.65 million characters of text (2.2 million from Jiangnan's 'Dragon Raja' series and 12.45 million from Fenghuo's 'Sword Comes' series), with transparent corpus notes and character reference files available.

Dual-Author Writing Engine

The stylistic relationship between the two authors in one sentence: Skeleton resembles, skin does not. The shared narrative skeleton is documented in this file; the mutually exclusive language skins are in references/jiangnan.md and references/fenghuo.md.

Step 1: Routing (Mandatory)

Determine the mode, in order of priority:

  1. User names an author → use the corresponding mode
  2. User explicitly requests a hybrid ("use A's something with B's something") → hybrid mode
  3. Infer by subject: modern/urban/school/sci-fi → Jiangnan mode; classical/immortal/jianghu/court → Fenghuo mode
  4. If undecidable → ask the user

Then you must read the corresponding skin file before writing:

  • Jiangnan mode → read references/jiangnan.md (if writing Dragon Raja fanfiction, also read references/longzu-characters.md)
    • Novel style (default): write stories, fanfiction, scenes
    • Essay style: when user wants "Jiangnan's essay feel / look-back feel / that Dragon & Teenager Travel kind of vibe", or the task is a first-person retrospective prose piece—see the "Essay Style" section in the skin file, and add --mode essay to auditing
  • Fenghuo mode → read references/fenghuo.md
  • Hybrid mode → read both, and see the "Hybrid Mode" section below

⚠️ The two skins are mutually exclusive: dialogue verbs (说/道), punctuation temperature (expansive/restrained), temporal vocabulary (modern/classical), paragraph rhythm must not be mixed. Unless the user explicitly requests a hybrid, put on only one layer of skin at a time.

Shared Skeleton (Common to Both Authors, Applicable in Any Mode)

1. Short sentences as standalone paragraphs are emotional hammer blows. After a long buildup, a cold punch ("Very sad, all of a sudden."/"Chain upon chain."). The difference is only in frequency: Jiangnan uses it as a low-frequency killing move (about 10% of paragraphs), Fenghuo as normal breathing (about 15% or more).

2. All emotions are translated, never stated directly. "I love you" is unsayable—love is translated into actions, bets, relics, admonishments, scoldings. The harshest scolding is the most painful utterance; the body of a heartfelt letter is restrained, with the punchline in the P.S.. When you feel the urge to express feelings directly, stop and find an action or object to substitute.

3. Tearjerker moments are not explained. "Tears suddenly flowed, I don't know why"—then stop, never add "because". Lyricism does not end on lyricism: Jiangnan falls back to self-mockery, Fenghuo falls back to a principle or blank space.

4. Supporting characters have complete dignity. A minor character appearing for one page must still have their own desires, background, and inner thoughts (the bar manager's "male ikebana"/the old military strategist's sixty years in the Great Marsh Gang). No human backdrop.

5. "An elder tells a youth about life" is a signature scene shared by both. Directing formula: the elder performs a small action (puffing a cigar/fingering a chess piece/pouring wine) to punctuate the monologue's rhythm, while imparting visceral life lessons; the youth fails to grasp it, gets scolded, and only understands later. The lessons must be worldly and painful enough—anything at the level of "work hard" should be deleted and rewritten.

6. Power is written through contrast. Jiangnan: the more cowardly the character seems verbally, the more they rise to the occasion. Fenghuo: the stronger the person, the more understated they are written; strength is conveyed through the shock of onlookers. Common ground: abilities are not self-displayed.

7. The peak of tragedy is beauty and ordinariness. Death scenes are written with their terrifying beauty or utter plainness ("glass shattered like snow"/"eyes closed"), never with bloodcurdling screams.

Hybrid Mode

Users can specify that the "skeleton" and "skin" be taken from different sources. Common combinations:

  • Jiangnan's emotional arc + Fenghuo's skin: immortal martial arts register (Dao system, classical time, short-paragraph breathing), but structured with a "laugh first, then cry, then laugh again" arc, with tearjerker moments landing in Fenghuo's blank-space style
  • Fenghuo's lecture style + Jiangnan's skin: modern register for a "elder tells life lesson" big scene, with the worldly depth of the lessons at Fenghuo's standard, and the dialogue packaged as Jiangnan-style banter
  • Other combinations as specified by the user

Rule: the skin must be a complete set (register, dialogue verbs, punctuation, temporal vocabulary, paragraph rhythm—these five pieces follow the skin and cannot be broken apart), while the skeleton can be freely combined. The auditing script runs by skin: python scripts/audit_style.py --author <skin side> file.

Usage Boundaries (Common to All Modes)

The output is positioned as non-commercial fanfiction/style practice: does not impersonate Jiangnan (Yang Zhi) or Fenghuo Xizhuhou or their official sequels; does not reproduce original passages (quotes no longer than phrase level); if the user requests publication, remind them to label it as "fanfiction" and comply with platform and rights-holder rules.

Corpus Boundaries (Honest Declaration)

Jiangnan's rules are only faithful to his Dragon Raja period (220万 characters across Dragon Raja 1-4); Novoland: The Eagle Flag/Shanghai Fortress were not sampled. Fenghuo's rules are only faithful to his Sword Comes period (1245万 characters); The Swordsman and his Snow Stride/Er Gou were not sampled. When users name works outside the corpus, first declare the boundaries before writing—the skeleton can be used, but skin metrics are for reference only. See the same-named section in each skin file for details.

Final Self-Check (Common to All Modes)

  1. Are the five skin pieces complete and unmixed? (dialogue verbs/punctuation/temporal vocabulary/paragraph rhythm/register)
  2. Are at least 4 out of 7 skeleton rules hit? Are tearjerker moments unexplained? Do supporting characters have dignity?
  3. Run scripts/audit_style.py --author jiangnan|fenghuo file. FAIL must be fixed; WARN must be judged individually.
  4. Also go through each skin file's own "pre-writing self-check" checklist.
