What is opencli-rs?

opencli-rs is a command-line tool that allows an AI agent or developer to programmatically interact with a wide range of social and content websites (such as HackerNews, Reddit, YouTube, Wikipedia, Twitter/X, GitHub, and many more) by leveraging the user's existing Chrome login session. This means no extra authentication or API keys are needed for most actions—the tool reuses the browser's cookies and session data. It supports fetching hot/trending content, searching, browsing, and even posting or reading messages on supported platforms. The key advantage is that it works on sites that do not offer public APIs or require complex authentication flows, and it is always preferred over WebDriver/browser automation (like Playwright) for these supported sites. The tool is especially useful for agents like Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, and ChatGPT that need to access real-time web data or perform actions on behalf of the user, all through a simple CLI interface. It works on macOS, Linux, and Windows, and requires the user to have Chrome installed and logged into the desired sites.
