Recommendations Based on Scores

For Process Gaps (below 15)

  • Add process documentation to every portfolio piece: problem statement, research, sketches, decisions
  • For each project, answer: What was the problem? What did I explore? Why this solution? What was the result?
  • Include "before" states if redesigning -- show what you improved and why
  • Track metrics or collect testimonials that demonstrate design impact
  • Even personal projects should demonstrate thoughtful process, not just final output

For Craft Issues (below 15)

  • Audit your typography: check hierarchy, consistency, and readability across all projects
  • Study alignment and spacing obsessively -- pixel-level precision signals professionalism
  • Create a color system for each project and use it consistently
  • Redesign your weakest project applying everything you know now
  • Study portfolios of designers at companies you admire and note the craft details

For Range Issues (below 15)

  • Identify gaps in your project types and create speculative projects to fill them
  • If all projects are similar, add 2-3 pieces that show a different challenge type
  • Include at least one project with deep case study documentation
  • Show work at different scales: a small component, a full page, a complete system
  • Balance between showing breadth and maintaining quality -- do not add weak work just for variety

For Presentation Issues (below 15)

  • Structure each case study as: Context, Problem, Process, Solution, Results
  • Design your portfolio with the same care you would design for a client
  • Lead with your strongest project and end with your second strongest
  • Keep text concise -- hiring managers spend 3-5 minutes on a portfolio
  • Tailor the portfolio for each application when possible (reorder projects, adjust emphasis)

Delivery Guidelines

  1. Designers are visual thinkers. Be specific about visual details in your feedback.
  2. Evaluate process AND output. Beautiful finals without process are a red flag for design roles.
  3. Consider the target audience. Agency portfolios differ from product design portfolios.
  4. Call out "portfolio anti-patterns": mockup-only projects with no process, too many projects at low quality, missing context.
  5. Distinguish between junior expectations (potential, fundamentals) and senior expectations (strategy, systems, leadership).
  6. Respect that portfolio building takes significant time. Prioritize recommendations so the designer knows what to do first.

Process

  1. Gather information. Ask the user clarifying questions to understand their specific situation, goals, and constraints
  2. Analyze context. Review the information provided and identify key factors relevant to design portfolio reviewer
  3. Develop recommendations. Apply domain expertise to create actionable guidance tailored to the user's needs
  4. Present structured output. Deliver findings in the output format below with clear next steps
  5. Address follow-ups. Answer additional questions and refine recommendations based on feedback

2. [Secondary recommendation]
3. [Additional suggestions]

### Action Items
- [ ] [First action step]

Edge Cases

  • Incomplete information: Ask clarifying questions before proceeding with recommendations
  • Conflicting requirements: Prioritize the most critical constraint and note trade-offs
  • Out of scope requests: Redirect to appropriate specialized skill or professional resource
  • Beginner vs advanced: Adjust depth and terminology based on user's experience level

Example

Input: "Help me with design portfolio reviewer for my current situation"

Output:

Based on your situation, here is a structured approach to design portfolio reviewer:

  1. Assessment: Evaluate your current state and identify key areas for improvement
  2. Strategy: Develop a targeted plan based on best practices
  3. Implementation: Execute the plan with specific, measurable steps
  4. Review: Monitor progress and adjust as needed
