What is ppt-design-skill?

ppt-design-skill is a Claude Code agent skill that design, build, animate, and review professional presentation decks (PPT/PPTX). Use when creating or redesigning a slide deck where content structure, visual style, layout variety, charts, imagery, animation, Morph transitions, motion narrative, or overall polish matters; when turning raw material into a designed argument; when adding or fixing slide animation and transitions; or when auditing an existing deck's stati….

PPT Design Skill

Turn a topic plus raw material into a designed argument — not a decorated document. Static design and motion design are equal citizens: a deck must read well page by page and move well when it plays.

This file is the single entrypoint. It holds the decisions that must stay consistent; the references/ files hold the detailed knowledge, the workflows/ files hold executable procedure, and examples/ holds abstracted design patterns. Read only the references a task actually needs.

Task-name aliases (same workflows, kept for caller compatibility): create-deck → create-presentation, improve-slide → improve-slide, animate-slide → create-slide-animation, review-deck → review-presentation, extract-assets → extract-assets.

Replica and personal asset library

Two capabilities sit beside "design from scratch":

  1. Replication (replicate-deck, replicate-slide) has three contracts: A native reuse (exact; masters/charts/animations preserved), B structured rebuild (editable; fonts/effects approximated), C visual imitation (image-backed; text only). Always state the mode; never present C as editable and never claim 100% fidelity after substitutions.
  2. The library (E:\PPT-Design-Assets\) holds 50 templates, 50 standalone masters, 24 page patterns, 680 components, 64 animation recipes and the font registry. Search it before designing (scripts/asset_search.py, --compose), and record which asset ids were used.

The measured evidence for both is in references/replica-modes.md and references/asset-library-schema.md; procedures are in the six workflows above.

The Standard

A finished deck passes five tests:

  1. One deck, one world. Remove the logo and a stranger can still tell which deck any three slides came from.
  2. Every page has a job. The page advances the argument, supplies evidence, creates a pause, or asks for a decision. No filler pages.
  3. The hierarchy survives squinting. At thumbnail size (the contact-sheet test), the intended 1st/2nd/3rd reads are still visible.
  4. Nothing is decorative by accident. Every line, image, color field, and number earns its place.
  5. Motion is meaning. Animation reveals, guides, or compares. If removing an animation loses no information and gains no polish, cut it.

Do not aim for "more designed." Aim for one clear visual argument with one or two memorable moves.

Evidence base (measured, not guessed)

Derived from a full structural + animation scan of the source corpus. Treat as ranges to calibrate against, never as rigid law.

  • Canvas: 16:9 at 13.333×7.5 in in 94/102 decks. 4:3 for print/legacy (5 decks); ultra-wide 3.5554 used for banner-style public-report decks. One canvas per deck.
  • Shapes per page: median 10, mean ~16, p90 24. Dense data pages reach 30–55.
  • Type scale (pt): body 12–18; small labels 8–11; subheads 20–28; page titles 24–44; section/statement 44–80; cover/mega-numeral 88–344. Body copy is typically 12–18 pt, most commonly 14–18.
  • Palette: overwhelmingly 2–3 colors — a black/white or near-neutral field plus one saturated accent (e.g. FFD23C, C3DF21, 0F6FC6) and one neutral support tone. Sample professional accents: #FFD23C #C3DF21 #FF008E #00EBFF #0F6FC6 #D51C3B #7EAB28 #0535D1.
  • Fonts (CJK): 微软雅黑 / 思源黑体 family dominate; heavier display faces (思源黑体 Heavy/Bold, 庞门正道标题体) for titles. Fonts (Latin): Segoe UI / Segoe UI Light, Lato, Arial, Calibri. Free/commercial-safe set used repeatedly: 思源黑体 + Lato.
  • Charts: 55 decks carry charts. Distribution: bar 183, pie 78, doughnut 67, line 37, bubble 16, bar3D 13, scatter 12, area 11, radar 8. Charts are native editable objects with embedded workbooks — use editable charts, not pictures of charts.
  • Animation coverage: 1068/4235 slides carry a timing tree; 742 have a transition; Morph appears on 183 slides, push 169, fade 149, and a further 128 use other transition presets.
  • Effect mix: entrance Fade (701) and Zoom (371) lead, followed by Fly In (248) and Wipe (141); emphasis is dominated by subtle "change/highlight" effects; motion paths are present but rare and deliberate.
  • Timing grammar: dominant node relationship is withEffect (2678) then afterEffect (652), clickEffect (473). Delays cluster at 0 / 100 / 300 / 500 ms and durations at 500 / 1000 / 2000 ms, with decel easing on reveals.
  • Scales: emphasis pulses use 1.25× → 0.80× pairs (animScale 125000/80000).
  • Advanced media actually used: native 3D models (am3d:model3d) and embedded video — do not claim a library supports what it cannot emit.
  • Second-pass corpus (4314 slides): 105 analysed packages, 241 masters, 1393 layouts, 66 unique themes, 1099 slides with a timing tree, 183 Morph pages; transitions: morph 183, push 173, wipe 16.
  • Animation sample (50 curated decks): 984 effect nodes → 64 recipes; entrance Grow & Turn 144, Fade 141, Wipe 102, Fly In 52; emphasis Spin 247.
  • Asset yield after curation: 50 templates, 50 masters, 24 page patterns, 680 components (52 native charts, 160 shapes, 160 icons), 64 animation recipes, 129 font records / 88 families (26 OFL files copied).
  • Replica calibration (viz-01, 3 pages): A SSIM 1.000; B 0.674 (editable rebuild); C 0.978 (image-backed). Report per page, not just the mean.
  • Mode-B visual calibration (5 decks × 6 pages): 0.782 Business, 0.660 Technology, 0.915 Data, 0.865 Editorial, 0.751 Creative. Layout mosaics, a:srcRect crops and <a:alpha> overlays are applied; image filters and shadows are still omitted, so a low page must be reported, not averaged away.

Non-negotiables

  • Canvas: one per deck, 16:9 13.333×7.5 in unless portrait/ultra-wide brief.
  • Grid: a column grid (12-col default) with consistent gutters; content blocks snap to it. Deliberate rule-breaking used sparingly (<3 times per deck).
  • Margins: consistent optical margin; text respects a safe area even under full-bleed imagery. Full-bleed imagery is allowed; text still respects a safe area.
  • Palette: 1 dominant field + 1 neutral + 1 accent (+ at most 1 optional secondary). Use ~60/30/10. Do not introduce a new accent after page 3.
  • Type: maximum two families (one display, one body) and three weights. Keep a clear ratio between levels (≈1.3–1.5×); do not use four near-identical sizes.
  • Text density: covers 4–12 words; statement/section 10–35; content 40–110; dense analytical 120–220. If a page needs more, split the page, do not shrink below 12 pt.
  • Image treatment: pick ONE treatment (natural / warm-editorial / cool-architectural / duotone / monochrome / synthetic) and apply it deck-wide.
  • One motif: a rule, crop, dot, numeral, bracket, or repeated image mask, recurs on 4–8 pages — not every page.
  • One memorable move per deck: a giant numeral, a headline wall, a cut-out subject, an electric accent, an edge-to-edge type crop. Protect it by keeping everything around it quiet.
  • Animation budget: prefer reveals to constant motion; keep per-slide simultaneous motion ≤3 objects; never animate to decorate.

Self-contained

Everything needed is in this skill. It does not read the source corpus at run time; the corpus only supplied the measured ranges quoted here.
