QA LinkedIn Profile Optimizer

When to Use This Skill

Use this skill when the user:

  • Is a QA engineer, SDET, or tester optimizing their LinkedIn profile
  • Mentions: "LinkedIn for QA", "recruiters not finding me", "LinkedIn headline tester", "open to work"
  • Gets profile views but no messages, or messages for the wrong roles
  • Is running an active or passive QA job search

Core Capabilities

  • Build headlines from the tokens recruiters actually search
  • Order the Skills section for QA-specific search weighting
  • Structure About and Experience to mirror (not duplicate) the resume
  • Configure Featured as a proof shelf: repo, writeup, talk
  • Set Open-to-Work targeting so the right roles arrive
  • Establish a low-effort content cadence that compounds visibility

How QA Recruiters Actually Search

Recruiter search is boolean over titles, headlines, and skills: ("SDET" OR "QA Automation") AND (Playwright OR Cypress) AND TypeScript. Profiles win by containing the literal tokens, in the fields the search weights: current title, headline, and Skills.

Consequence: a clever headline loses to a token-bearing one.

HeadlineWhat happens
"Breaking software so users don't have to 🐛"Zero token matches; invisible to every boolean search
"SDET | Playwright, TypeScript, API Automation | CI/CD"Matches the three most common QA search patterns
"QA Engineer -> helping teams ship quality"Matches only "QA Engineer", the most crowded token

Formula: [Target title] | [Top 2-3 tools] | [Specialty]. Use the title you want next, provided your experience honestly supports it.

Skills Section Strategy

LinkedIn allows dozens of skills; search weights the pinned top three heavily.

  • Pin: your primary framework (Playwright or Selenium), your language (TypeScript/Java/Python), and either "Test Automation" or "API Testing" per your target
  • Include the exact-token long tail: REST Assured, Postman, Cypress, Appium, JMeter, k6, CI/CD, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, SQL, Agile Testing
  • Delete noise skills (Microsoft Office, Teamwork); they dilute the profile's topical signal
  • Collect endorsements on the pinned three first; endorsement counts feed ranking within results

About Section

Four short paragraphs, first person, tokens woven in naturally:

  1. Who you are and scale: "SDET with 6 years across payments and SaaS, automating web and API layers"
  2. The stack, in sentence form (this is searchable text): "Daily tools: Playwright with TypeScript, GitHub Actions, Docker; previously Selenium with Java"
  3. One concrete outcome with a number
  4. What you want next + how to reach you

Recruiters read About only after a search hit; its job is converting the view into a message, so end with the ask.

Experience Entries

Do not paste the resume. Two to three lines per role: scope, stack, one outcome. Add media where it exists (dashboard screenshot, conference talk). Critically: make current and previous titles token-accurate; if your internal title was "Engineer II" but the work was SDET, write "Engineer II (SDET, Test Automation)"; the parenthetical is searchable and honest.

The Featured Shelf

Pin, in order:

  1. The framework repo (with the README that sells it)
  2. A bug-hunt or flake-hunt writeup
  3. A talk, certification, or the portfolio site

Three items maximum; a curated shelf reads as a professional exhibit, a dumping ground reads as clutter.

Open to Work Configuration

  • Titles: list all honest variants (QA Engineer, SDET, QA Automation Engineer, Test Automation Engineer); each is a separate recruiter search population
  • Location: add "Remote" explicitly if wanted; remote-only filters exclude profiles without it
  • Visibility: "Recruiters only" for employed candidates; the green ring is fine when openly searching
  • Refresh the setting monthly; recency affects placement in some recruiter views

Content Cadence That Compounds

One post or thoughtful comment weekly is enough. Formats that perform for QA voices:

  • A real debugging story (the flake that turned out to be a timezone bug)
  • A before/after test refactor with a code snippet
  • A short take on tooling news, with your experience attached
  • Questions that invite war stories ("worst escaped defect you have seen?")

Skip engagement-bait and reposted motivational content; hiring managers screen your last ten posts, and the goal is "this person clearly does the work".

Weekly 15-Minute Maintenance

  1. Accept relevant connections; message none of them with pitches
  2. One comment on a testing thread with genuine substance
  3. Check search appearances: which queries surfaced you (adjust tokens if wrong roles dominate)
  4. Every 4-6 weeks: rotate the headline specialty token and observe the search-appearance delta

For QA and Testing Roles

The single highest-leverage edit for most QA profiles: adding "Playwright" (with real experience behind it) to headline and pinned skills, because search volume has shifted there while most profiles still say only Selenium. And keep AI-testing tokens honest: "LLM testing", "AI test automation" and similar draw fast-growing recruiter interest, but only add them with a demonstrable artifact (an eval suite, an agent-testing writeup) in Featured to back the claim.
